Cobia start to show up mid June on the oceanfront as they make their way up into the bay to spawn. As they make their way into the Chesapeake Bay we have a few good shots at them before they all make it up there to breed.
Strategies we use for Cobia
We use a few different ways to catch Cobia, first and most popular one is sight casting when they are in good numbers and are odds are good of boating them.
We also enjoy chumming for them by means of a chum tube or chum bag off the stern of the boat while floating live baits around the boat, this is a very productive way to bring them to the boat and also bringing other species to the boat as well.
Hooking into a large Cobia will definitely test your skills as a angler, we generally catch them in the size range between 20-60+ pounds and 40' is the minimum size length this year.
